SNFL PERÚ

The 2021/2022 Peruvian table grape export season, which runs
from September to March, has ended with great results!

According to information obtained from Provid (Peruvian Association of Table Grape Producers), the 2021/2022 season closed with a total of 21,099 hectares of table grapes, of which 9,597 correspond to installed hectares of white varieties. An increase of 22% compared to 2020, and Peru is the world’s leading exporter of fresh grapes. This season (2022), an increase of 12% is expected for Peruvian grape exports. Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, the Peruvian engineer, projected that the marked difference between the previous and current season would be apparent by the end of March 2023, according to the interview conducted by PortalFrutícola.com.

During this season 2021/22, +11 million boxes of SNFL varieties were shipped from Peru, meaning an increase of boxes of +45% this season. Allison™ has turned into the 3rd most exported grape variety in this country.

By the way, with the celebration of Open Day in Peru in January 2022, we invited licensed growers and nurseries in Peru to participate in a commercial presentation of our varieties, and technical visits to the test block of Agrícola Don Ricardo varieties.

From SNFL Peru, we would like to thank again to our growing partners Pedregal and Corporación Agrolatina for showcasing our SNFL varieties. More than 50 people have been participating in the event!

Stay tuned, we will keep you updated!

DID YOU KNOW?

Table grapes are among the most popular fruits for a
healthy snack.

Consumers’ interest towards food with healthy and sustainable characteristics is growing and consumers show willingness to pay a premium price for those products that meat with those characteristics. In this context, table grapes could be considered a product with functional characteristics since they offer a wealth of health benefits due to their high nutrient and antioxidant contents.

Moreover, its production and distribution are increasingly affected by sustainability concerns.

Heavy consumers of fruit are the ones who “eat fruit as a snack” & “for breakfast” and with a “healthy mindset”.

Now everything has almost returned to normal, fruit consumers have shifted their preferences toward more tropical flavours and snackable fruits.

Both in the USA and UK, fruit consumers stated that grapes are the most snackable fruit followed by bananas and apples. In Germany, grapes are the 3rd fruit preferred for snacking. In United Kingdom, fresh grapes continue gaining popularity in the fruit bowl and, at home consumption, grapes account for 10% of the content of the fruit bowl.

Table grapes are among the most popular fruits in European consumption.

On the other hand, unlike berries, grapes are an affordable everyday fruit that can be purchased with significant frequency.

As stated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, worldwide, table grape consumption is projected up 25,1 million tons, with Asia representing 71% of the global consumption, followed by Europe 15% and America 14%.5

In the meanwhile, in countries such as Brazil, “table grapes were not a product with much value and their consumption was mostly seasonal. Now, thanks to the introduction of new seedless varieties in recent years”, such as Timpson™, from SNFL Group, table grape is “increasingly perceived as an attractive and tasty healthy snack“, says Helia Mendonça, Sales Manager for Brazil of Fazendas Labrunier, the largest producer of table grapes in Brazil, based in Petrolina, in the state of Pernambuco.

Between 2019 and 2020 the exports of fresh grapes grew by 5.67%, from $8.81B to $9.31B. In 2020 the top exporters of fresh grapes were Chile ($1.06B), China ($1.04B), Peru ($1.01B), Italy ($828M), and the United States ($784M).
